Band History |

After growing up in Nowheresville, USA, the only thing that seemed reasonable was to start a rock and roll band. Enter The Vibe Tribe. A 4-piece rock band with influences steming from rock, blues, soul, funk and twang.
Singer Jeff Randall, guitarist Reggie Raisner, bassist Danny Postlewait, and drummer Kenny Shepard wrote songs that were beyond even there own expectations. "We always wanted to play music and tour but when we actually started writing songs together everything kind of fell into place," explains Randall. "We had all been friends for a long time. Actually The Vibe Tribe started out as a 3 piece with me on drums and lead vocals. I had known Kenny for some time and he sort of just fit the mix. I think he practiced with us 2 or three times and then played like 3 gigs and we were a band.
"We did 17 Vibes before Kenny was in the band. As soon as it came out he was in the band. It never really seemed like it was the real thing, the record I mean. Kenny wasn't on it and we had grown up a lot since its release so we were chomping at the bit to do a studio record with Kenny."
After a year, the band met producer Chris Henry from Nashville, TN. It took about three phone calls and they realized they had to record with him, so in early December 1997 they went to Nashville and recorded Drive. "After recording the recorded soley on our own own without a label we signed to HammerHead Records out of Champaign. The record came out and we started touring. St Louis, Nashville, Cincinnati,Springfield, Decature and finally Chicago. We did that for about a year. Rock and Roll takes its toll, so it wasn't long before the band crashed and burned," says Randall. Exit Kenny Shepard.
"We made really great friends while touring and one of the bands we toured a lot with was Simple Simon. I used to hang out with those guys and go to their shows. It just so happened that they were sort at the end of their rope, so to speak, so thats when we all started jamming together. Reggie, Danny and I never stopped writing and in fact thats when we started writing the best shit we had ever done together. Unfortunately without a drummer it's hard to play shows."
After the departure of drummer Kenny Shepard the remaining members built a studio and started writing and recording a few songs that turned into about 25 or so brand new unreleased tracks. After scrutinizing over what songs to release The Vibe Tribe released a an indie record Christmas (2001). There were only about 100 copies printed and immediately sold out. It was more of a fan release. Since the release of the Christmas record, more songs have been recorded and are awaiting release upon demand.
After reconciling with former drummer Kenny Shepard the band have been playing shows from time to time just to rock and reminisce about the glory days, no touring plans are in the future for the original 4, but are always a possibility.
